The challenge

Organic compost retailer Fertile Fibre had a Magento 1 website that was rapidly approaching end of life, and the team were looking for a platform that would make a good fit for the next phase of their ecommerce business.

After carrying out a review of the client’s business, rather than recommending making the move to Magento 2, we recommended the Shopify platform as the most suitable tech stack for taking their business to its next level of growth.

Shopify’s ultra-optimised checkout process, user-friendly content management system (CMS), reduced PCI compliance and lower operating costs as an ecommerce platform made it a natural fit for the next chapter in Fertile Fibre’s story.

The process

With the platform nailed down, we commenced a smooth and successful migration from Magento 1 to Shopify, migrating all existing site content, reflecting updated brand imagery across the new website and providing bundling and bulk-buy options for products in line with the client’s specifications.

Data migration is often one of the most painful aspects of a platform migration and should be clearly mapped out at the beginning of a project to prevent issues from emerging closer to launch. Planning is key to any successful data migration.

Throughout this build, we maintained a firm focus on user experience and engagement - two primary criteria for a profitable ecommerce store.

Here are just some of the ways that user experience and engagement came to the fore in this web migration project:

  • Introducing stunning lifestyle imagery of products being made and used to improve product merchandising across the website and to communicate Fertile Fibre’s brand image loud and clear
  • Implementing visual on-page navigation options to create a more inclusive customer journey through the use of clear navigation throughout the site
  • Promoting testimonials from happy customers on the site’s homepage to improve brand touch and trust points, and incentivise online sales

The result

This new Shopify website has afforded Fertile Fibre an enhanced online presence, providing the organic compost retailer with the tools to grow the business online and drive additional sales across its eco-friendly product range.
